We're now getting mass media reports that yet another country the US government doesn't like has been trying to kill American troops in Afghanistan, with the accusation this time being leveled at China. This brings the total number of governments against which this exact accusation has been made to three: China, Iran, and Russia.
I wonder if they really do have solid information that someone is paying the Taliban bounties and are desperately looking for an "acceptable" country to pin it on. Presumably whoever is paying the bounties doesn't want the US to leave Afghanistan, possibly as it provides a base to further encircle Iran. That would leave the usual suspects of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Israel or elements within the US itself.
Obviously these are unacceptable to accuse and so the Intelligence Community has to keep bouncing from China/Iran/Russia
