Yet again, Ms Johnstone hits the nail squarely on its head. Thanks for all you're doing to expose the warmongering, racist, poor-hating government and military of the USA - same as here in the UK which is yet to even hint at following the weak effort to reduce arms sales to SA by Joe Biden. The killings in Yemen go on, and UK workers, to their shame, are still building the weapons.

this is such a good essay which pulls apart the most sticky a priori fantasies we hold.. a legitimate government should be able to be not only transparent but PROUD of what they do

Thank you for detangling and clarifying and inspiring again.

The quest for transparency in the world reflects our desire for inner transparency.

Witnessing the mental activity which had previously been automatic/ unconscious is the beginning of the end of the ego’s domination over us as individuals and it’s domination over us as a species and planet.

The impulse for transparency in the world naturally arises from our inner search for what is... because What is makes no distinction between inner and outer.

Our inner secretive autocrat — the ego—is the source of all the world’s secretive autocrats.

Hiding and deception—ancient survival techniques—are favorites for the body and the ego.

It’s nothing personal , the body and ego are both simply trying to survive. Chronic survival mode can be quite painful and cruel however.

The egoic dysfunction makes our survival brain centers chronically active, dominating/suppressing our other innate tendency for sharing/ caring/ collaborating.

Inner domination by the ego leading to domination by our ancient survival brain: the original domination from which all outer/worldly domination arises.

(By the way, the ego once seen may no longer technically be the ego but our continued unconscious behaviour patterns still largely have the same look and feel for quite awhile...and we are unconscious much of the time even after the initial breakthrough of witnessing our own internal voice and patterns. Semantic debates over this can fool people into believing the ego no longer dominates but the ego-derived dysfunction still directs much of our behaviors and identity until we know ourselves as vibrant spacious presence. So calling it the egoic pattern or dysfunction or ego-derived behaviors is still valid and useful.)

Thank you!! The Western world seems to be suffering from a Stockholm-Syndrome-writ-large, where the captives sympathize with --- and even defend --- their abusive captors. The U.S. strain of this social virus is the most acute version, which should come as no surprise.

Don't forget the capture of the Pueblo was staged to encourage the public to support the Vietnam war. To his dying day, we believe Commander Bucher (sp) never knew he had been given bad maps.
