Great stuff, thanks. As you suggest: the biosphere tries to teach us how to be naturally cooperative humans. But we usually reject its ancient sapient counsel in favor of rootless fables and carelessly fabricated half-truths.
I find religions' attempts to explain humaning to have failed miserably, and here in the West, where Christianity dominates, the idea of original sin atoned by human sacrifice to be a ghastly case of moral extortion blotting out what should be a beautiful mystery.
Naturally, as l picked up my phone to write this, l managed to spill hot coffee all over the sofa. Pretty damn human of me, l must say.
The split "me" creates dissonance, believing we have a "good side" vs "bad side" or a "smart side" that has to fix the "stupid side". Loneliness and separation result from this split. Our wholeness is the ever present reality in which to embrace both parts with compassion, limitlessness and curiosity of heart. We don't need a ladder to get up to the roof because we're already there...
In Philip K Dick's The Man in the High Castle, throatslitter Julianna is the only human present. There are precious few others dotted around in reality.
