I'm seeing many well-meaning and sometimes brilliant people mired in Manicheism. Anyone who recognizes nuance is attacked from both poles. I know Caitlin has in the past been accused of being alt-right for being too critical of corporate Democrats Our wisest people are thus denigrated.

Ever since I read Dean Baker's 2016 book "Rigged" I realized that my success in life was as much due to my talent as to my ability to navigate the rigged system of which you speak. If one is lucky, one learns the rules and how to use them to advantage. Alas, 90% of the population either ignores the rules or actively resists their force in society. They just put on the yoke and ignore their servitude, or put on the yoke and grouse about it. In either case, they have condemned themselves to mediocrity because they concluded that they had no options. Then a prick like Trump, or Hannity, or Jone, or Beck, or Limbaugh.... comes along and exploits their fear and loathing to line their pockets - and lined they are - with platinum.

Caitlyn, I really appreciate your articles. Please consider this possibility: Given the levels of repression now coming our way and last ditch efforts of the sociopaths to insanely accumulate even more wealth as a reaction to the declining resources, increasing climate instability, declining surplus energy (see Tim Morgan's website, Surplus Energy Economics, and Tim Watkins' site, Consciousness of Sheep), soil depletion, mass extinction, etc., based on their assumption that wealth, social status and political power solve all personal problems, it is really time to ABANDON politics and political reform, centralized government and (attempts to rein in) multinational corporations, and INSTEAD begin forming small communities for self-support and sufficiency - communes, extended families, new "monasteries," as occurred after the fall of the Roman Empire. Advocacy of this new form of "break-away civilization," small enclaves with goals besides self-help and survival of preserving arts, music, literature, scientific learning, mathematics, skills such as weaving, pottery, etc. etc., leaving our current model behind as much as possible to self-destruct (where it is headed by design anyway), may be the most helpful and hopeful thing we can do at this point.

Beautiful article. The universe is huge too, and we are a tiny part of it 😊

As the universe is a near copy of the human brain and vice versa ( according to new science there is indeed a great connection. Thinking of evolution the human mind is restricted in its imagination for good reason. Sociopaths are indeed the greatest enemy that humanity has ever faced . So why are the people in all countries not joining together and taking the psychologists to court for not helping humanity be aware and also taking steps to have a new law that bans sociopaths from positions of authority ?

Ian Ross Vayro wrote 'Tears in Heaven' (Joshua Books) some years ago, in his brilliant research he illustrates that the same dynasty that assassinated Julius Caesar and crucified Christ, still rules the world.

you are a hero, the criticism is coming from a good place:

‘a few manipulative sociopaths’ is not enough, anyone with a device to see this post is far enough up the pyramid to be doing more harm than good.

Disappointed! manipulative sociopaths have been and always will be with us, it is in our DNA!

Moral relativists believe that only internal justice matters, that there is no objective right or wrong. That justifies their belief in lifeboat ethics, which is deliciously taken apart in this video:

"There is so very, very much more to humanity than conventional wisdom can currently perceive. We have so very, very much untapped potential that simply hasn't unlocked yet. There are mysterious forces at work in our species..."

Oh God. This isn't any different than the inane aspirational rhetoric we're fed every day.

An overwrought piece, ,most ill-befitting your usual style. The "universe" couldn't care less about "you". The universe is what it is and "you" are what "you" are. When it is time for "you" and your species to self-destruct, believe me the universe will carry on and won't notice a thing...

"Very very" is child-talk. "Very very" TWICE in two lines is just sappy nonsense. Give it up.

How do you know what is "dwarfed" by what?

Yeah. The manipulative sociopaths die. Then they are replaced by others.

The absolute worst article you have ever written. Shame on you!

You’ve identified the problem, the socio psychopaths who roam our streets, those that gum up the ecosystem, so to speak. I’m assuming ecosystem is economic system vs ecological environment. Maybe they gum up both.

But, with that thought in mind, how to solve the problem. The “paths” may equate to 10% of the population or more just as there is a small minority of gay, autistic or left handers in existence.

The only way I perceive change is placing “non sociological” types in power to change the system in a BFD way. That would require psychological testing and analysis before a campaign and we both know that ain’t gonna happen.

But let’s at least what that change should be if we were to be led by Mr. Watson from IBM. You know (s)he is not influenced by money or ideology, I hope.

Maybe you’ll agree with me that the intrinsically racist and biased banking system and our method of money creation and distribution must be overhauled.

But like the last line in that kid’s movie in the 1990’s said, “that’s a story for another day.”
