Lets give the US a base in northern Australa for their troops, on top of the Pine Gap surveillence facility for their "intelligence" agencies. Let us then replace the contract with France for submarines which are designed to operate in the shallow waters of Austalia's littoral with ones which are bigger and noisier and are not designed for that purpose but to team up with team US to patrol waters further afield. And that effort is to threaten our largest trading partner.

None of the above helps Australia's security. It weakens our naval defense and creates targets if the USA's provocations create a war in Taiwan, as their provocations created a war in Ukraine. Thankfully, I dont think the Chinese will fall for that. But, it is still a bloody stupid thing to do which only benefits the USA military industrial complex (and a little to the UK).

Oh, and to add to your list above:

and E) is Australia's dominant trading partner.

Great article, Caitlin. And nice graphic too.

PS: How long before before AUKUS becomes a synonym for stupid?

It's a band of "inadequacy brothers" or some such, look at the "leaders" of those govs: US, UK, Australia, NZ, France, Canada.

Look at the mess created, something not "normal" is happening. It can not

be that this is not planned. It just can't. IMO of course. Thank you Caitlin

for such excellent work you do.

100% on the money as always. The only part that shocked me was the scrutiny about the illicit non-disclosure of the golf excursion. What? Your government completely surrenders its sovereignty to another country run by batshit crazies that orders you to involve itself directly in its war-to-come against your largest trading partner, and anybody is worried about the possibility that, as a sweetener for the deal that at least puts your entire military on the front lines of said war, your defense minister got to play some golf in the US somewhere during his last boondoggle to DC. How is this remotely possible? How is it that every Aussie doesn’t see through this? How is it that in the USA, everybody doesn’t see through this and the proxy war against Russia in Ukraine? ARE VIRTUALLY ALL OF OUR FELLOW CITIZENS UNDER SOME KIND OF EVIL SPELL?

To quote Charlie Brown from another context, I can’t stand it. I just can’t stand it.

Well, if you're going to be annexed, at least allow yourself to be 6 to 10 additional states. Maybe divide yourself up to the size of Delaware. You could control the electoral college!

Will we become another Ukraine that fights American empire-expanding wars to protect their homeland while destroying ours?

This is what they did in WW2 -- let all the others be invaded and bombed while American homes and businesses were protected.

The presence of US military personnel is Darwin and surrounds is currently significant and looks set to increase. Militaries around the the world condition troops to hate and dehumanise their alleged enemies, none more so than the US and Darwin is home to a large ethnic Chinese population.

If they no anything about Japan, Okinowa or the Marshall Islands, they might be getting a bit worried.

"Marles, who is currently facing scrutiny in Australia for being illicitly secretive about the nature of a free golf trip he went on in his last visit to the United States, has said that the DSR "will underpin our Defence policy for decades to come.”"

I'd be shocked if all that Marles got was a golfing trip. Shows that his masters consider him a cheap whore.

Axtually, I'd be even more concerned if that was in fact all Marles got. It's one thing to sell out, to take silver over lead. It's another thing entirely to sell yourself practically for free because you just love master and actually believe his crap.

All this confirms that the United States is an empire and that its so-called allies (Australians, Europeans, Asians) are merely the equivalent of the peregrine cities of ancient Rome.

Anglo-colonial alliance aka Five eyes has gone completely bananas. The Financial Times yesterday treated us to a hysterical story about why this was a must-do, because of “Chinese aggression” which is their standard fake news.

Countires around the world has finally beginning to dare see that the US is treating the world as either vassals or a national security threats. There's no other position. You're with us or against us. This is a nightmarish scene with only one outcome, world destruction. And neither party gets it. The party's over.

If the Australian people passively accept this narrative and enable their government to submit totally to the wishes of their overmasters in the US government, then Australians will have proved themselves even dumber and more cowardly than Americans, which would be quite a feat.

And, then, we click our heels, or whatever is the metaphor, for further yes, sir: “Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has agreed to attend the NATO summit in Lithuania in July after coming under criticism when it appeared he would skip the high-powered gathering.”
