I consider myself an optimist, but as an American l can't help leaning towards the unpleasant end option as the most likely. The shear amount of willful ignorance l see is deplorable with so many exit doors clearly marked.

There is one thing that has changed. Biden is not committed to withdrawing troops from Afghanistan like Trump was. We will never know if the military and CIA would have allowed that to happen, but Trump did seem committed.

Actually, things have changed in Washington. Over 50 of Trump's most fascist executive orders are canceled. $1.9TN is now floating around to stimulate the economy of little people (fat cats too, unfortunately). Voting rights are in play now.

In my 45 years as a DC denizen, I learned early on to be patient because government gets done through people and that slows the process as one tries to convince or bypass those opposed to what you are trying to do. Bills do not write themselves, and once written, committees in both houses re-write them, and even then they might not pass. Once passed and signed by the WH, an agency has to program resources, hire people to deliver the new service or enforce the new regulations, and those new rules must be vetted by voters over a 90+day comment period. US monopolies then sue to stop the change that always hit their profits, then after SCOTUS tells the monopolies to FOff, something starts to happen.

It is only when everyone is on board with a new program or policy that stuff happens fast. America cannot even vaccinate itself against a killer virus despite warehouses full of vaccine. It is not PC for MAGAs to get vaxxed, the super-rich and elderly must get vaxxed first. Then there are imbecile governors like DeSantis and other southern idiots who encourage superspreader events like Spring Break. The sick kids fly home to mommy and infect everyone on the plane enroute. Soon the country is back to a pandemic in full swing again and zero progress - unless you are an undertaker.
