My headline would've read: "Planet fortunate to be rid of one of the preeminent pro-war propagandists of the 20th century." And the lead paragraph might somewhere say: "Rummy may be gone, but the unmitigated arrogance that drove the a-hole to convolute the language into glittering vacuities to support his maniacal homicidal urges lives on" — as you so clearly elaborate in this great piece. My only regret is viewing the image of his smiling face, which reflexively provokes such a profound rage in my gut that I feel physically ill. The countenances of the smiling chimp, Dubya, and his overseer, Dick Cheney the heartless (transplants notwithstanding) contributed to that physical revulsion. That America spawns and worships such sociopaths is an accurate measure of our depraved condition.

My wakeup call to the reality of the whitewashing of state criminals was Nixon's funeral. Of course most things uttered at funerals tend to be ludicrous religious cant, but it takes a perverted political power structure to turn base indecency into something akin to an honorable life. Actually, religion is pretty good at doing this too.

I want to thank you for providing me with another of those canary in a coalmine examples of how truly toxic 21st century America's behavior is, useful when trying to get others to quickly see things more clearly. Assange works, and Israel serves this purpose as well. How our political criminal class treats our political criminal class-members once they die is equally illustrative.

Nobody seems to have recalled the man's connections to GD Searle, the company that brought Aspartame into the world and his role in it's having found it's way into thousands of food products. Foreign wars pale in contrast to the harm that men like Rumsfeld and companies like Searle, now a Monsanto subsidiary , are doing to the health of the American people and our agricultural lands.

And let us not forget that the day before 9/11 Rumsfeld announced that $2.3 trillion was "missing" from the Defense Dept. that he headed. The next day the explosion destroyed all the records.

While I generally agree with John Donne that, “Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee.”

I can't say I feel much for Rumsfeld other than class hatred. But unfortunately he lives on.

"He lives on in the continued violence he helped initiate in the Middle East. In the death and destruction rained down by the US and its allies in the name of preserving a unipolar world order that none of us ever asked for. In the dying gasps of starving children under imperial blockades in Yemen and Venezuela."

Our day, however, will come!
