The vast majority are good or victims of ‘their’ circumstances. We may in the near future practice ‘shadow work’ to look inside into those dark corners. We to can inflict horrific acts but choose not too. Many think that only a world armed rebellion can save the planet. If that’s the case is it too late? Have too many people been duped into thinking they are doing the right thing? How many people join the military thinking they are doing the right and honourable thing to find out they are just being duped and used as a political pawn? At 20 I thought I was doing the right thing, by 32 I had been promoted 4 times and was a staff officer designing, processing and disseminating ‘policy’ aka ‘ BS’.
If each of us just get one person to open their mind we have a chance. I believe most of us intrinsically know right from wrong, a built in moral compass.
...where "realists" and "leftists" agree on the outcome if certain actions are taken (Ukraine), but then may take those actions anyway because they don't agree that the outcome is "good" or "bad".
Is it a lie if you truly believe it to be the only choice for a positive outcome?
I'm not at all suggesting that there are no liars. Krysten Sinema comes to mind. But if (as Good points out) you haven't a common definition of a given label, you will get no where in resolution of the conflict. (Abortion for example)
It's a shame people can't just live their lives in peace, unfortunately though, some people don't think we should have inalienable rights, including many of us who will be the first to die when the greatest genocide the world has ever seen begins. We are like those people who wanted Prohibition in the US thinking that some how the law would only be applied to others, not them. Obviously, many Christians never heard the words of Christ, "Whatever you do on to the least of men you do on to me".
This excellent poem captures the situation perfectly: it is a jungle, what we are born into and live in, but an artificial jungle that has lost all the charm of the real, original jungle because the predatory beasts are not beautiful, natural, exciting, inspiring, challenging and basically our companions, mentors and friends. These self-made beasts want it all for themselves, and nightmares for the rest of us. They want to push us out of our natural home, and size us up for harnesses and reins. And then erect fences, barbed wire and land mines so we can't even see other possibilities, think clearly, breathe freely.
