Way to focus, Caitlin. Yes, US aggression is the no. 1 problem in the world today. Covid-19, identity politics and the supposed fascism of Trump himself are distractions intended to remove our focus while deranged Democrats agitate for more censorship and the total destruction of personal freedom under the guise of fighting deranged Trumpistas.

One must remember that G.W. Bush started with the attack on Iran because he didn't like Hussien. He has been called a war criminal by NATO and his own father criticized his actions. We displaced Hussein and destroyed ancient artifacts and killed many. Iran asked us to stay after the initial invasion to try to bring stability. We have now been there for 20 years and have lost more of our troops to suicide than due to hostile acts by people in the countries we invaded. People in the U.S. and around the world are really tired of the U.S. neglecting its own needy citizens to try to police the world. Nothing partisan; both Democrats and Republicans must take ownership, responsibility, and accountability for their decisions and actions.

So with Syria you completely ignore Assads brutal regime and use of chemical weapons on his people and assume to say we should have just let it be and not intervened despite a cry for international action from Syrians. On Iraq, this is VERY Western-splaining towards many of the Sunnis in Iraq who are terrified of the dangerous influence of Iran in the region and actually demand US presence there as protection when the rest of the world wont protect them (and Iraq's military is insufficient). Also there is NOTHING about Russian's imperialistic presence in the region and how dangerous that is - especially when Russia is 10x worse than America in its own human rights abuses (gays in concentration camps in Chechnya, next to no freedom of press or speech, the mass arrest of tens of thousands pro-democracy protesters) and who will fill the vaccum in the region if America is gone. Why are you only condemning WESTERN imperialism, ignoring the very real threat of Turkey, Iran, China and Russia's own imperialistic interests which threaten the lives of minorities in the region. Yes, I'm willing to condemn elements of Western imperialism and wish we could opt for isolationism, yet I know that if those other regimes were able to carry out their intents, we'd get mass killings and suffering with the same people condemning this saying "We need to do something about this and act!!!"

If anyone is looking for a book to help convince their friends and family of how evil the US war machine is, I can't recommend Scott Horton's new book Enough Already: Time to End the War on Terrorism highly enough. I've already bought 4 copies for other people. I would absolutely love to hear Scott and Caitlin have a conversation.

Parse this statement cited by Caitlin to see all you need to know about how a foreign power invading and making illegal war and death in other nations uses language and propaganda to dupe the (disinterested) public. "Biden administration to push back against alleged Iranian-linked violence in Iraq and Syria, on a border control point in eastern Syria was 'authorized in response to recent attacks against American and coalition personnel in Iraq, and to ongoing threats.'”

I expected no less from this warmonger (for whom I did not vote). My only question would be, what took him so long?

Another excellent piece against the US government view of the world which we, myself included, accept uncritically. The supposedly left-of-centre Guardian:

The United States has carried out airstrikes in Syria targeting facilities near the Iraqi border used by Iranian-backed militia groups.

The Pentagon said the strikes were retaliation for a rocket attack in Iraq earlier this month that killed one civilian contractor and wounded a US service member and other coalition troops...

The strikes appeared to be limited in scope, potentially lowering the risk of escalation.

The rocket attacks on US positions in Iraq were carried out as Washington and Tehran are looking for a way to return to the 2015 nuclear deal abandoned by Donald Trump.

In the attack earlier this month, rockets hit the US military base housed at Erbil international airport in the Kurdish-run region..."

Again, "US positions" are stated yet not questioned. Why are there US positions in other sovereign nations? Are there Iranian positions in the USA? Why not? The media just repeat US PR and we lap it up. Thank you Ms Johnstone for helping me see more clearly.
