It is worth recalling that when we left Saigon for good, Ho Chi Minh quickly seized control of the south, and the Commies were running the country just like Nixon and every other DC singer of Jingo Bells predicted. Of course, today, Vietnam is a welcome trading partner and the socialism of Ho turned out to not be so bad after all.

The "issue reach the top of the Barack Obama administration" in 2012 in the form of a DIA report warning that if Obama continued to arm the opposition in Syria, a caliphate would be declared, but it's true that this information was not at "the top of the Barack Obama administration’s agenda." That space was reserved for regime change in Syria, by hook or by crook including cozying up to the FSA which was also in the pocket of ISIS.

The goal of this never ending war is not empire or world domination. The goal is simply to keep the killing going so as to justify the three Ps: Profits (for military contractors), Promotions (for suits and stars at the Pentagon, think tanks and media) and Pork (for Congressional districts). In fact, it works better if "we" don't win.

The problem with the world is twofold: war is profitable and those making the money are confident they'll remain alive to spend it. We need change only one of these perceptions.
